Walk Across Texas Kick-Off

You’re INVITED!

We would like to invite you to participate in our Spring 2019 Walk Across Texas here in Young County March 25th through May 18th.

Walk Across Texas is an eight week walking program that has more than 20 years of documented success in improving wellness and physical activity among adults and youth.  The program is simple and free.  Form teams of up to 8, keep track of walking for eight weeks.
The challenge is for the team to walk the 830 miles which is equivalent to walking across the state of Texas. We are challenging all Young County organizations, worksites, schools and churches to participate and to see which teams and individuals walk the most miles. The team and classes who walk the farthest “across Texas” will win, but everyone who participates will take home a healthy habit – walking for fitness.

To participate in WAT you need to:

  1. Get a group of coworkers that would like to walk. For schools classes can count as a team.
  2. Each class and/or team has a captain. The captain agrees to register the team and members enroll online. Please use the following League Code for
    reference: watL-190319-9JCMGL
  3. All team members keep track of their miles and report them weekly to the team captain who logs it in at the WAT website.
  4. At the end of eight weeks, team members complete a wrap-up form and the captain turns it in to the Young County Extension office.
  5. You can register and enter miles online at http://walkacrosstexas.tamu.edu .

All teams are encouraged to register on-line by Monday, March 22. For those who register their team by the deadline, their names or class will go into a random drawing for a prize. A kick off lap will take place at the Young County Courthouse on Monday, March 22nd at 12:30pm. For questions or more information about Walk Across Texas, contact us at the Young County Extension office, located at 3201 Hwy 16 South, Graham, Texas or call 940-549-0737.
