4-H Shooting Sports

Welcome to our Young County 4-H Shooting Sports Project!

We’re excited that you are interested in participating in one or more of our shooting sports disciplines. We currently offer the following disciplines with the help of our amazing coaches who volunteer their time and expertise.

  • ARCHERY
  • RIFLE
  • SHOTGUN

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Registered 4-H members (Must be in the 3rd grade and 8 years of age by August 31st.) Annual 4-H membership is September 1-August 31.
REGISTRATION opens up on August 15, 2020 for past 4-H members. New 4-H members will need to wait until September 1 to register.

HOW DO I REGISTER?
You can register through our 4-H Online Site and complete a family and member profile. Please select a community club for your membership (must be a member of a community club whether you plan to participate or not), select and add shooting sports under projects. This will  allow our coaches to look up your name and confirm membership before shooting. Unfortunately Clover Kids (ages 5-7) are not able to participate.

IS THIS A GROUP OR INDIVIDUAL PROJECT?
Shooting Sports can be done on an individual or group basis. Please note that those who plan to compete at 4-H contest (county, district, state, other) will have to have a coach sign off stating that the 4-H member has participated in a safety class, is knowledgeable with appropriate commands, is safe to shoot around others, etc.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
There are several expenses involved within the Shooting Sports project due to the nature of the activities.

  1. Texas 4-H Annual Membership Fee:
Early Registration: $25 when enrolling August 15-September 30
General Registration: $30 when enrolling between October 1-August 14.
  2. Young County Shooting Sports Project Fee:
Beginning 2020-2021 there will be a project participation fee of $25 for particular disciplines.
This fee helps cover expenses related to materials, equipment, and other resources needed. Archery Examples: paper targets, foam targets, nets, repair tools, etc.
For more information please contact appropriate discipline coach or extension agent.
  3. Personal Equipment:
Young County is very lucky to have project equipment primarily provided through our local NRA grants. Each discipline does have limited equipment (bow, rifle, shotgun, etc.). 4-H members are welcome to utilize equipment when available. Please note that due to increased participation when sharing equipment 4-H members may not have as much time to practice due to the switching back and forth between equipment, especially when there are personal adjustments needed between each member. If you have your own equipment or have the means to purchase your own equipment that is awesome! If you need information regarding the right equipment needed for you, size, brands, etc. please don’t hesitate to ask your coach! They are knowledge in what’s currently on the market and what may be a good fit for you.
